What is KILANFest?
The brain child of Brian AKA Monty_P and his business partner Robbie. We are dragging along some great friends and fellow gamers for some LAN party festivities in a friendly family-oriented atmosphere. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Below is some basic info that you will need to join the party. Any questions? Drop me an email.
Where is KILANFest held?
Check the directions page for information on where KILANFest is being held and how to get there.
When is your next event?
Our ground breaking first ever, inaugural event was held March 8th and 9th of 2008. From there on, we are trying to put on three events per year. Check the main page of our site to see when the next event will be held.
What times do your events start and end?
All of our events start at 10:00AM EST on Saturday morning and run continuously until 4:00PM Sunday.
The doors open at 9:30AM, and attendees are welcome to show up and begin setting up their computers anytime after the doors open. The power and network may not be stable until 10:00AM, when the event officially begins, so please do not plug in and power up until the staff gives the OK to do so.
How much does KILANFest cost?
KILANFest is a non-profit event. To cover our costs we charge a $30 entry fee ($35 at the door). This covers room rental, power equipment, network equipment, servers and other miscellaneous costs. You may want to bring extra money for food, swag, or anything else you may want to purchase. You are encouraged to pay the entry fee at the time of registration using PayPal through our online commerce process. If you prefer snailmail you can send a personal check or money order to:
Brian Miller
Hostaroo.com
3321 Preston Hwy.
Louisville, KY 40213
Payment is expected within 1 week of registration. Reservations that are not paid within 1 week of registration are subject to cancellation.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Contact Brian by email. We will refund $28 of your $30 entry fee, with $2 going to cover the cost of issuing the refund (Paypal fees, postage, etc). Entry fees are normally non-refundable within 3 weeks of an event. However, exceptions will be made under the following circumstances:
- The event is sold out.
- There are people on a waiting list
- Someone on the waiting list is willing to take your seat.
Are there any tournaments and contests?
Yes. We will hold three official tournys. Winners of the tournaments will recieve bragging rights and their names will be emblazoned in our Hall of Fame for all eternity. In addition to the official tournys we expect to have several "unofficial" tournaments.
What about prizes?
Our sponsors generously contributed lots of cool stuff that will be given away as prizes. All prizes are awarded by a random drawing. You must present your KILANFest name tag to claim a prize. If you leave early you may turn your name tag over to a friend that can claim prizes for you in your absence.
Only registered attendees are eligible to win prizes at KILANFest
What about spectators?
We have a no spectator policy to protect your equipment and ours. Parents, spouses, or significant others are welcome to accompany an attendee if they are interested in observing what happens at KILANFest. If an attendee wants to share his computer with a second person, both persons must register and pay the entry fee.
Some confusion arises due to the "significant others" exception to our no spectator policy. That exception is necessary because alot of parents want to see where they are sending their kids for the weekend. We have nothing to hide and are happy to allow parents to see what we do at KILANFest. Beyond that, spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends, or whatever are also welcome to check us out. But.... this does not mean that they are welcome to stay for the entire event. There is no hard-and-fast rule about how long specators can stay before we kick them out. But if we see a spectator settling in we remind them of our policy and that usually resolves the issue. If a significant other wants to stay for the entire event, they are welcome to pay the registration fee and get a name tag. That would also make them eligible for door prizes.
Does KILANFest have internet access?
Yes! We have sufficient internet access available. This means that everyone will be able to surf the web, check email, IM, use Windows Update, and play STEAM-enabled games. However, because this is a shared connection, we do not permit any online gaming or bandwidth hogging. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
Where can I sleep at KILANFest?
If you want to catch some zzz's during your stay at KILANFest bring a sleeping bag and pillow. Some people bring air matresses, which are fine also. We will turn off the projector and music between the hours of 4am and 9am for those that want to sleep.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Not really, but be sure to check out the What to Bring and the Rules pages.
How can I help?
First, please help us spread the word about KILANFest. Tell all your friends about us!
We can always use help with breaking things down after the event. If you want to help just stick around afterwards. Thank you!
